Tumerico Tucson: Family-Owned, Scratch-Made, and Voted #1 Vegan Restaurant in the U.S.

Tumerico has been voted the #1 vegan restaurant in the U.S., and after finally sitting down to eat here in Tucson, we can say without hesitation—it deserves every bit of the spotlight!

FamilyOwned and Scratch-Made

This isn’t just another restaurant. Tumerico is family-owned, scratch-made, and rooted in Tucson’s local flavors. The story started with owner Wendy Garcia selling vegan tamales out of a cooler at local farmers’ markets. Fast-forward, and those same tamales helped put Tumerico on the map as a must-visit destination. The kind of food that began humbly now draws attention from national media—and even Guy Fieri and Kelly Clarkson have stopped in to see what makes this place so special.

What We Ate

We came hungry, and it’s a good thing, because the portions are generous and every plate is worth savoring:

  • Sonoran Barbacoa – A bold, smoky, and tender plant-based twist on a regional classic.
  • Machaca Plate – Comfort food with layers of flavor, hearty and satisfying.
  • Posole Soup – Rich, warming, and deeply flavorful.
  • Al Pastor & Cuban Tacos – Two different styles, both absolutely bursting with personality.
  • Mesquite Mole – Complex, earthy, a little sweet, and unforgettable.

To drink, we ventured off the beaten path with the Elderberry Lemonade and Creosote Lemonade. Refreshing, floral, and totally unique—they rounded out the meal perfectly.

The Experience

From the moment you step inside, Tumerico feels like Tucson: colorful, vibrant, and welcoming. The staff is friendly, eager to share the daily menu, and the energy of the space matches the creativity of the food. Every dish looks like a work of art, and every bite delivers something new.

Why It Stands Out

What makes Tumerico shine is its ability to make vegan food exciting for everyone. You don’t have to be vegan to fall in love with these flavors. It’s plant-based dining that doesn’t feel like a compromise—it feels like a celebration.

Final Thoughts

Everything we tried was out-of-this-world wonderful, and it’s easy to see why Tumerico was named the best vegan restaurant in the United States. Family-owned, locally inspired, and full of creativity, it’s a Tucson treasure we’ll definitely return to. If you’re planning a trip to Southern Arizona, put Tumerico at the very top of your list—you’ll thank us later.
